Deborah Barfknecht - Barrister & Solicitor
Deborah is a graduate of the University of Windsor Law School and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Carleton University where she majored in Psychology. She has taught courses in legal writing and criminology and has authored an article about Victim’s Rights. She also speaks on a variety of legal topics concerning family law within the local community. Feel free to contact her if you need a speaker for your organization.
Outside her legal practice, Deborah is involved with a number of worthwhile organizations. She is a member of the Women’s Canadian Club of Hamilton, and her multiple volunteering initiatives include being an active Rotarian, involvement with Hamilton’s Black History Committee, and supporting Afro Canadian Caribbean Association events. In addition, she has also hosted a number of foreign exchange students within her home as part of the Canada World Youth Program. This program helps young people learn English while discovering the beauty of Canadian culture.
For over 20 years, she has been involved with the legal communities’ premier fundraiser, “Miles for Smiles” and has helped raise over $800,000 to support youth scholarships and programs for young people involved with the Good Shepherd Centre. Deborah also does a free bi-monthly legal advice clinic for the Good Shepherd. At her office, initial consultations are free of charge.
Deborah is a proud mother to a daughter and also a proud foster mother and grandmother.
Mary-lisa is the office manager for Barfknecht Law Office. She is a McMaster University graduate and has been working with Deborah Barfknecht for several years.
She is an active Rotarian, a member of Hamilton’s “Miles for Smiles” charity in affiliation with the Good Shepherd Centre, and a board member of the Women’s Canadian Club of Hamilton.
